Nazaré

The best known viewpoint in Nazaré, located in Sítio, in the place called Promontório.

This rock formation rises abruptly from Nazaré beach, and is the plateau where Sítio da Nazaré is located, reaching a maximum height of 110 meters.

This viewpoint is related to the legend of Nazaré. Legend has it that on September 14, 1182, the mayor D. Fuas Roupinho was hunting in this area and, while chasing a deer, headed for the top of this cliff. When he was about to fall over the cliff, he saw the cave of veneration to Our Lady and begged: "Lady, help me!"! The horse stopped immediately and the marks of its paws were forever engraved on the spot.
