Roman Baths

Mérida

The Roman Baths of Mérida are an ancient Roman bath complex located in the city of Mérida, in the Extremadura region of Spain.

Built in the 1st century AD, the baths were an important center of leisure and relaxation for the Roman inhabitants of the city.

The bath complex included several rooms, such as changing rooms, massage rooms, pools of cold and hot water, as well as a steam room. The baths were decorated with colorful mosaics and sculptures that depicted mythological themes and scenes from Roman daily life.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, the baths were abandoned and eventually buried under layers of earth and later constructions. In the 20th century, the ruins were rediscovered and underwent extensive restoration to preserve their original structure.

Today, the Roman Baths of Mérida are an important tourist attraction and can be visited by tourists. It is a fascinating site for those interested in the history of Roman civilization and ancient architecture.
