Belém`s Tower
Lisbon
The Tower of Belém is one of the most iconic monuments in the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
Built in the 16th century, the tower was originally designed to defend the entrance to the port of Lisbon and served as an important fortification to protect the city from enemy attacks.
The Tower of Belém is a notable example of the Manueline architectural style, which combines elements of late Gothic with Renaissance and Moorish styles. The tower features many ornamental details, such as sculptures of sea creatures and ropes, symbolizing the Portuguese Age of Discovery.
In addition to its historical and architectural importance, the Tower of Belém is also known for its beautiful views of the Tagus River and the city of Lisbon. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower to admire the panoramic views and explore its various rooms and corridors, including the Room of the Kings, which houses statues of four Portuguese kings.
