Arrifana Viewpoint

The place where this fortress is located is also a magnificent natural viewpoint over Praia da Arrifana and the Costa Vicentina.

Built on a promontory in schist substrate, the Fortress of Arrifana was built in 1635 under the mandate of the Governor of the Kingdom of the Algarve and Captain-Mor, D. Gonçalo Coutinho, to defend the western coastline of the Algarve, the bay of Arrifana and a almadrava (tuna fishing trap) existing in the place since 1516.
